Infrastructure Victoria's 30-year Infrastructure Strategy

Our July function will be presented by Edward Smelt on Infrastructure Victoria’s 30-year infrastructure strategy.

Infrastructure Victoria is an independent advisory organisation which was established in October 2015. In December 2016, Infrastructure Victoria delivered the 30-year strategy to Parliament. The delivery of Victoria’s first ever 30-year infrastructure strategy was one of Infrastructure Victoria’s key priorities in 2016. It is statewide, evidence-based, covers all types of infrastructure and has been developed with all Victorians in mind.

This strategy sets out a pipeline of initiatives – 137 recommendations – to be delivered over the next three decades to help create the best possible future for all Victorians. Some of these initiatives are new build solutions – state shaping projects that could transform how Victorians live and move. Many other initiatives involve no construction, but could be even more impactful.

The 30-year strategy and the evidence base that informed this document is available to view on the Infrastructure Victoria website

This presentation will focus on the development of Infrastructure Victoria’s 30-year infrastructure strategy and the strategy’s rail and freight recommendations.

Ed joined the Infrastructure Victoria team in 2016 as a Principal Engineer and Transport Sector Lead in the Strategy and Research team. Ed was responsible for the assessment of the public transport and freight options considered for the final 30-year infrastructure strategy. This year he is leading stakeholder engagement for the transport sector as well as supporting Infrastructure Victoria's research work.

Ed has previously worked as an engineering consultant with GHD where he held a range of roles in bridge design and assessment and risk management and supported a number of public sector clients in project, contract and asset management for transport and visitor infrastructure.

Ed holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Melbourne.
