NSW EA Event – Sydney Metro Stage 2 – Tunnelling for City Stations and Under the Harbour

March 25, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm UTC+10

John Holland is a major contractor for Stage 2 of the Sydney Metro project, the biggest public transport project in Australia. It comprises twin 15.5km tunnels from Chatswood to Sydenham as well as a number of stations. This talk will focus on the tunnel excavation and boring and the lining work for both the rail tunnels and the city stations including some of the techniques and challenges of tunnelling under the harbour. The city stations present particular problems due to the need to clear existing infrastructure and integration with the existing rail network.
