Forming part of the Northland Rail Upgrade Project, Five Bridges were replaced across the North Auckland Rail Line. With 9 months programmed from awarding tender for design to practical competition of construction, programme posed a significant hurdle. Along with Covid-19 restrictions and the resulting supply chain issues, the project called for a ‘one team’ approach. Where possible, standardisation was implemented across the project and fast construction techniques such as segmental bridge construction were adopted to reduce onsite construction time. The presentation looks to cover some key challenges that the design team faced throughout the project journey.
