NSW Chapter RTSA Event (Webinar) – Rolling Stock Dynamics Simulation with VAMPIRE

November 10, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm UTC+10

Vampire is a simulation program for railway vehicle dynamics. Vampire was formed as a package in the late 1980s from the combination of a suite of analysis programs developed, tested and validated by British Rail Research. It is now known as Vampire Pro and is used by railway organisations throughout the world. SNC-Lavalin now own the rights to develop, support and license Vampire.

Vampire has been carefully validated by testing and experiments using a range of test vehicles including the Advanced Passenger Train, Laboratory Coach No. 1, HSFV1 and Decapod from its inception to today. This presentation will describe the origins of the Vampire program, how it has become an essential tool to Railway Engineering and will describe some examples of its use.

Speaker: Ian Goldney – Principal Engineer, Specialist Engineering, SNC-Lavalin

Ian has over 35 years of experience in the field of rail vehicle dynamics and suspension. He started his railway career with British Rail Research in Derby, England in 1983. Ian held various positions in British Rail until his division was privatised as Interfleet in 1996. Ian moved to Australia in 2004 to Interfleet Technology’s (now SNC-Lavalin) Brisbane office where he continues to work in the areas of rail vehicle dynamics and suspension.
