Rail Systems and Safety Assurance

Gary Bundell will be presenting on Rail Systems and Safety Assurance as Principal Rail Systems & Safety Assurance Engineer at AECOM Australia.
About the speaker:
Gary is a Chartered Professional Engineer with 17 years of engineering practice experience most recently in a system and safety assurance role for the rapid transit rail transportation sector but before that in the heavy-haul rail automation sector (with system assurance roles and before that in engineering/technology development roles). He also has 18 years of academic experience in engineering education and leadership. His early engineering experience has included software development for embedded computer systems, specification of novel control and signal processing algorithms, and managing/mentoring other engineers engaged in these activities.
He has had various roles from R&D manager, through to consulting engineer and recently in lead roles in system, safety assurance and project review roles. He has a demonstrated capacity to work across a wide range of advanced technology projects, and his main technical interest is in rail technology systems from a safety, reliability, availability, and performance perspective.
He is currently on secondment to the Perth METRONET project as an engineering assurance manager, but most recently he has worked for AECOM on various phases of the Sydney Metro project, from technical advisor safety assurance lead on Sydney Metro West Scoping/Definition Design to technical advisor safety assurance on the Sydney Metro City & South West Reference Design and also on portions of the Sydney Metro Northern Corridor Works detailed design and construction phase as a safety assurance manager.
