RTSA NSW Event – Site visit to Sydney Metro’s Operations and Maintenance Facility

August 26, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm UTC+10

Site visit to Sydney Metro’s Operations and Maintenance Facility

Sydney Metro North West opened earlier in May, operating as the first fully automated rapid transit system in Australia. The operational context is very different to the conventional heavy rail and light rail networks in NSW.  It is very important for rail professionals to understand the differences in running a metro and heavy rail network.

The visit will include a tour of the Operations Control Centre (OCC) where train controllers constantly monitor the entire metro system, controlling rolling stock, tunnels and platforms to deliver a safe and reliable journey. The visit will also include a tour of the train stabling and maintenance facility, which incorporates latest technology for:

• Train washing
• Inspection and repairs
• Major train maintenance
• Wheel maintenance

About Metro Trains Sydney:

It is a joint venture between MTR Corporation (60%), John Holland (20%) and UGL Rail (20%) formed in September 2014.   It operates the network with a fleet of 22 Alstom Metropolis trains under a 15-year contract.
