SUMMARY:NSW Chapter Event: AS 7501 and compliance certification
DESCRIPTION:Join the RTSA NSW Chapter and Michael Horgan (Principal Electrical Engineer\, Rail Confidence) in person at the Engineers Australia office in Sydney\, for a presentation on AS 7501 and compliance certification – not just ticking boxes\, on the evening of 6th September. \nClick here to register on the Engineers Australia website. \nEvent Overview\n\n5.30pm: Registration open and networking\n6.00pm: Presentation commence\n7.00pm: Presentation conclude and further networking\n7.30pm: Event close\n\nRefreshments and drinks will be provided. \nSince the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) released AS7501 especially\, the use of Independent Certification has become part of the rolling stock acquisition project compliance landscape. \nWhile AS7501 was developed to provide a standard method for certifying rolling stock compliance to facilitate network registration of rolling stock\, there is significant value that can be obtained from implementing the AS7501 process. \nThis talk will consider how AS7501 supports the rolling stock registration processes. The Independent Certifier (IC) process will also be shown to be one of the key pillars of the assurance framework for a rolling stock procurement project. It will also highlight the additional value that an organisation can obtain by introducing AS7501 independent certification. AS7501 is not just a box ticking exercise. It has the potential to be an integral part of the risk management process and improve the outcomes of rolling stock acquisition projects.\nThere have been many large rolling stock acquisition projects in Australia in recent years. Since the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) released AS7501 especially\, the use of Independent Certification has become part of the rolling stock acquisition project compliance landscape. It is important that independent certification is not seen as a box ticking exercise. \nWhile AS7501 was developed to provide a standard method for certifying rolling stock compliance to facilitate network registration of rolling stock\, there is significant value that can be obtained from implementing the AS7501 process. \nThis paper will consider how AS7501 supports the rolling stock registration processes. The Independent Certifier (IC) process will also be shown to be one of the key pillars of the assurance framework for a rolling stock procurement project. It will also highlight the additional value that an organisation can obtain by introducing AS7501 independent certification. AS7501 is not just a box ticking exercise. It has the potential to be an integral part of the risk management process and improve the outcomes of rolling stock acquisition projects. \nSpeaker\n \nMichael Horgan\nPrincipal Electrical Engineer\, Rail Confidence \nMichael Horgan is a highly experienced Principal Consultant and Rolling Stock Engineer who has spent his entire career in rail. He has worked for both private and public organisations across passenger and freight rail. Michael has extensive experience in rolling stock maintenance\, asset management\, customer management and train operations. As a consultant he has performed wide ranging roles across numerous assignments. Among others this includes Stabling and Maintenance Lead during the early design stages on one of the Sydney Metro projects\, the Lead IC for the Metronet rolling stock procurement and Electrical SME for the Queensland NGR OSAT team

SUMMARY:International Workshop on Railway Brake Research (On-line)
DESCRIPTION:Brakes are indispensable and safety-critical systems for all types of railway trains including passenger (high-speed\, metro\, tram\, etc.) and freight trains (heavy-haul\, intermodal\, etc.). Safe and efficient railway operations require a good understanding of brakes from various parties including drivers\, maintenance crews\, manufacturers\, and design engineers. Brake research helps to expand and deepen the knowledge about railway train brakes. \nDriven by the rapid development of Intelligent Transport Systems and the ever-increasing demands for faster and heavier trains\, as well as energy savings and sustainability\, railway brake research has seen a new wave of interests from the industry and academia. Under these situations\, we propose an International Workshop on Railway Brake Research to boost brake research. The International Workshop on Railway Brake Research will be virtually hosted by CRE of Central Queensland University (Australia) and DIEF of University of Florence (Italy) from 19-20 September 2023. This virtual conference will bring together the latest research to achieve a better understanding of the behaviour and mechanisms of railway brake systems and associated phenomena. \nTopics of interest include\, but are not limited to: \n\nPassenger and freight train brake systems Innovative brake system designs\nExperimental study and field testing of train brake systems Fluid dynamics in brake systems\nReal-time brake models including empirical models\nNumerical methods for brake modelling\nParameterisation of brake systems\nFriction and adhesion in brake systems\nCondition monitoring for brake systems\nStochastic features in brake systems\nAdaptive brake modelling for automated train driving\n\nRegister via the link below
