SUMMARY:IRSE ASPECT 2023
DESCRIPTION:ASPECT is the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) international technical conference\, held every two years at locations around the world.  \nASPECT 2023 Programme \nThe conference will run over three days\, delivering fifty one technical papers from global industry experts on the theme of Global Integration and will also feature several related workshop sessions. \nASPECT provides an unrivalled opportunity for learning and the exchange of knowledge in the fields of train control\, railway communications\, and related disciplines. The fourth day of the conference will provide a range of technical visits to complement the three technical days. \nThanks to ASPECT 2023 being held in one of the most liveable cities in the world\, we have secured the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to host the three days of technical sessions. This world-class facility is in the heart of the Melbourne CBD and close to transport\, hotels\, and restaurants. It will take place from 08:30 Tuesday 21 to 17:00 Friday 24 November 2023 (local times). \nOne of the highlights of the week is the conference dinner which will be held at one of Melbourne’s iconic venues. Finally\, as it is a rail conference\, we have arranged a chartered steam train ride on the Puffing Billy Railway\, including site visits and evening dinner to top it off with. \nThe event has consistently attracted a wide of range of people in the industry with over 250 delegates from across the globe attending the last ASPECT conference.

SUMMARY:NSW/ACT Chapter Event: AI\, machine learning: An applied mathematician's perspective
DESCRIPTION:Join the RTSA NSW/ACT Chapter and Engineers Australia’s ITEE Collegefor a presentation on AI\, machine learning: An applied mathematician’s perspective at 6:00 – 7:00 pm AEDT. \nThis is a hybrid presentation\, with a networking opportunity for those attending in person. \nClick here to register on the Engineers Australia website. \nEvent Program\nWednesday 22nd November\, online and In-person at Engineers Australia Newcastle Office\,125 Bull Street\, Newcastle West\, New South Wales\, 2302 \nIn-person:\n•    5.30 pm AEDT: Networking and refreshments provided\n•    6.00 pm AEDT: Presentation commences\n•    7.00 pm AEDT: Presentation concludes \nOnline:\n•    6.00 pm AEDT: Presentation commences\n•    7.00 pm AEDT: Presentation concludes \nOverview\nPeople are discussing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and many are concerned about it\, while others are taking advantage of it. Everyone will be affected by it. This presentation will be a high-level overview of how AI works and what it can and cannot do. It is well known that almost all computing\, from 3D graphics to computer tomography\, is based on linear algebra and calculus. It is not surprising that AI and other “frightening” developments have used the same concepts. I will explain\, in a way that is understandable to a numerate audience\, how AI works without getting too technical. \nThe goal is to make it less intimidating with a bit of knowledge. I will discuss why I am not worried about losing my job\, why being an early childhood educator may be the job of the future\, and why I look forward to the day my doctor uses AI to diagnose me. \nLearning outcomes\n\nThe meaning of Artificial Intelligence (AI)\nReview of learning algorithms you may have heard about\nThe future of AI\n\nAbout the presenter\n \n  \nProf Mike Meylan\nProfessor\, The University of Newcastle \n  \nClick here to register on the Engineers Australia website.
