SUMMARY:Simplifying ETCS level 2 integration
DESCRIPTION:Join the RTSA NSW Chapter online and in-person at Engineers Australia Sydney for a presentation on simplifying ETCS level 2 integration. \n📅  6.00 – 7.00 pm (AEST) Tuesday 1st September \n🌏  Online and in-person in Sydney \n🎟️  Register on the Engineers Australia website: Simplifying ETCS level 2 integration | Engineers Australia \nOverview\nFor rail operators\, deploying advanced technologies such as European Train Control System (ETCS) L2 and traffic management systems represents both a major change and a significant challenge. In many instances these transformation projects involve the integration of unfamiliar COTS products into existing systems. At the same time operators are faced with the need to avoid disruption by trying to minimise the impact the new systems will have on their operational procedures. Based on project experience\, this presentation outlines an interface management approach that has successfully de-risked the deployment of ETCS L2 and enabled its integration into an existing railway. The presentation will guide you through the 12 steps of successful interface management and how the process can be supported with the use of Model-Based Systems Engineering. \nLearning outcomes\nIn this presentation\, you will understand: \n\nthe steps taken to identify and implement interfaces for successful ETCS L2 deployment\nthe tools and methods used to manage interfaces\nlessons we’ve learnt and risks we mitigated.\n\nProgram\nIn-person: \n\n5.30 pm AEST: Registration opens\n6.00 pm AEST: Event begins\n7.00 pm AEST: Event concludes\n\nOnline: \n\n6.00 pm AEST: Event begins\n7.00 pm AEST: Event concludes\n\nAbout the speaker\n\n\n\nNico Teulier\nPrincipal Consultant Systems Engineering and Executive Director – Acmena

SUMMARY:100 Years Under the Wires: Sydney's Electric Trains 1926 to 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join the RTSA ACT/NSW Chapter and the Engineering Heritage Australia (EHA) and Electric Energy Society of Australia (EESA) in Sydney and online for a presentation on 100 Years Under the Wires: Sydney’s Electric Trains 1926 to 2026. \n📅  6:00pm – 7:15pm AEDT Tuesday 6th October\n🌏  In-person (Engineers Australia\, Sydney) and Online\n🎟️  100 years of Sydney electric trains: engineering 1926-2026 | Engineers Australia \nOverview\nSydney’s introduction of electric passenger trains in 1926 transformed rail travel and represented one of the most significant engineering developments in New South Wales transport history. Moving from steam-powered operations to an electrified railway network required major advances in planning\, design\, manufacturing\, operations and maintenance at a time when engineers worked without the benefit of modern digital technologies. \nThis presentation explores the evolution of Sydney’s electric rolling stock and traction systems over the past 100 years. Beginning with the original electric fleet and early resistor-based control systems\, the session traces technological developments through the C Sets\, V Sets\, Tangaras\, Millennium trains and the recently introduced Mariyung fleet. \nAttendees will gain insights into how railway engineers have adapted emerging technologies to improve reliability\, efficiency and performance\, while preserving the operational and heritage value of Sydney’s electric railway network. \nLearning outcomes\nIn this presentation you will learn: \n\nhow new engineering technology is is adapted and used for railway operations\nthe challenges in keeping up to date with developing technologies\nhow changing technologies can make operations more effective and economic\nwhy Sydney’s electric trains are such highly regarded heritage items.\n\nWho should attend?\nThis event will be of interest to all engineers\, engineering professionals interested in the evolution of electrical transport systems\, and those with an interest in railway heritage and infrastructure development. \nProgram\nIn-person: \n\n5.30 pm AEDT: Registrations open\n6.00 pm AEDT: Presentation begins\n7.00 pm AEDT: Q&A session\n7.15 pm AEDT: Presentation ends\n7.20 pm AEDT: End of event\n\nOnline: \n\n6.00 pm AEDT: Webinar begins\n7.00 pm AEDT: Q&A session\n7.15 pm AEDT: Conclusion\n\nAbout the speaker\n\n\n\nJohn Watsford OAM\, FIEAust\, B.Sc(Eng) UNSW\, LIfe Member RTSA\nRetired Electrical Engineer
