SUMMARY:RTSA - Qld Chapter Event - PPPs vs D&Cs - A Case Study: Inland Rail
DESCRIPTION:PPPs vs D&Cs – A Case Study: Inland Rail \nAt this panel event\, jointly hosted by RTSA\, EA’s Civil College and EA’s College of Leadership and Management \, experts will discuss the Inland Rail Project and the learnings from its delivery model using both contract delivery methods. \nThe Inland Rail project is a 1\,700km rail connection from Melbourne to Brisbane\, including brownfield and greenfield sections. It consists of thirteen different projects\, five of which are in QLD\, two of which are to be delivered using a D&C contract method and three to be delivered as a combined PPP. \nThis panel event will interview two ARTC leaders\, Rob McNamara the Project Director of the North Star to Border and Border to Gowrie Projects to be delivered as D&C’s and Simon Fraser the Gowrie to Kagaru PPP Project Transaction Manager. The panel will also include Queensland Major Contracts Association (QMCA) CEO\, Jon Davies\, to share his knowledge on why PPPs and D&Cs suit different projects and the benefits and challenges of each from the contractor point of view. \nWith significant tunnels\, flood plains\, viaducts\, earthworks and a whopping total of $9.3b federally committed to develop and build Inland Rail\, the future backbone of the national freight network\, this is an event not to be missed!

SUMMARY:RTSA - NZ Chapter Event and Webinar - How faster rail changes the economic & social landscape
DESCRIPTION:The RTSA New Zealand and the Engineering New Zealand Auckland Branch invite you to a presentation from Professor Andrew McNaughton\, Strategic Advisor to the UK High Speed 2 Rail project in Auckland on Monday\, 19 August which will also be available for members elsewhere to view live online. \nAndrew McNaughton is a leading authority on high speed rail and chairs the World High Speed Rail Committee. He was the Chief Engineer for the UK High Speed 2 project from 2009 -17 and led the specification\, operational design\, technical strategy and route development for the project. He is currently leading the New South Wales government Fastrail strategy\, as part of its regional development and regeneration agenda\, and is Special Advisor to the Czech Republic Government on similar issues. Andrew is a Professorial Fellow at the University of Southampton and a visiting professor at Imperial College\, London\, and Nottingham University. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProfessor McNaughton was a standout Keynote speaker at the 2010 RTSA Conference on Railway Excellence in Wellington and we are delighted that is able to speak to us during a very short visit to Auckland. \nAndrew’s presentation is very relevant to New Zealand given the current government interest in developing regional rail services to connect our major cities to regional centres. He will draw upon his worldwide experience and demonstrate how using faster rail services to increase the distance that people can travel within defined time periods\, through faster rail services\, such as 30 minute cross city trips\, 1 hour commutes and 2 hour regional connectivity\, results in new economic activity and land use development opportunities. \nThe presentation will  be broadcast as a live webinar for those unable to attend in person. \nPlease use the registration link below to indicate whether you will attend the presentation in Auckland or join online. For those attending in Auckland\, there will be an opportunity for networking with drinks and nibbles provided after the presentation. \nThanks to EY for kindly hosting the meeting and to Beca for sponsoring the networking drinks and nibbles. \n\nMonday 19 August\, 5pm\nEY Offices\, 2 Takutai Square\, Britomart\, Auckland 1010\nRegister here \n\n

SUMMARY:RTSA - Queensland Chapter Annual Meeting (AGM) and Trivia Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:Following the success of previous year’s Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA)\, Queensland Chapter AGM Dinner and Trivia Extravaganza\, we anticipate we will once again fill our venue\, the Brisbane Novotel\, with rail industry personalities for another exciting event this year. \nAveraging around 120 attendees each year\, the RTSA (QLD) AGM is one of the prominent events in the QLD Rail Industry’s calendar providing a wonderful opportunity for networking across all sectors and disciplines. The success of the evening would not be possible without the support that we receive from our sponsorship each year.
