SUMMARY:Qld Event: Advances in Railway Traction Technology
DESCRIPTION:During this session we will provide two technical presentations on recent advances in technology in the railway traction system in Queensland’s passenger network. It’s a catered event and we’d like to encourage attendance in person to take advantage of the networking opportunity. \n \nPOWER TRANSFORMERS \nCaboolture feeder station is planned to be renewed by 2024 and QR’s HV Systems Engineering department is investigating a new supply arrangement that will utilise a special type of power transformer\, whose design is complicated by the booster and autotransformer systems both being supplied by this feeder station. This presentation covers the design\, modelling and transformer market solicitations undertaken by the team. \nCENTRAL STATION – CONVERSION OF OLE TO ROCB \nQR has recently completed the introduction of Conductor Rail technology in the heart of its sub-urban passenger network. The vision of the project was to introduce an Overhead Traction Contact System technology that not only delivers predicted improvements in performance\, resilience and the risk profile\, but also complements the architectural enhancement of the station. \nThe presentation covers the approach to introducing a new basic design\, and the challenges brought by implementing it in a busy brownfield setting. \nEvent program (In-person event) \n5:00 PM AEST — Arrival & registration\n5:30 PM AEST — Webinar commencement\n6:30 PM AEST — Networking drinks & canapes\n7:30 PM AEST — Conclusion \nWebinar \n5:30 PM AEST — Webinar commencement\n6:30 PM AEST — Webinar conclusion \nWho should attend this event\nAnyone interested in railway technologies\, power systems/HV systems engineers\, OHLE engineers\, mechanical engineers\, asset managers\, suppliers and consultants. \nSpeakers \nAlan Buttery\, Principal Engineer Power Systems\nAlan Buttery (B. Eng) (40) studied at the University of Queensland; 2004 to 2016 Electrical Engineer at Aurecon; since 2016 Principal Engineer – Power Systems Design\, Queensland Rail. \nJoe Percy\, Principal Engineer Traction Distribution\nJoe Percy BEng (Hons) is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and has over 20 years of experience of leading design and development of railway infrastructure across a number of global networks. Following enjoyable appointments at Balfour Beatty and GHD\, Joe joined Queensland Rail in 2011 as the Principal Engineer – Traction Distribution.
