SUMMARY:Safety assurance: does practice beat theory?
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nIan Mash M.Eng MA (Hons) Cantab MBA CPEng RPEQ NER MAICD FIEAust (he/him) \nDirector\, Assured Rail Projects Pty Ltd \nOverview\nSafety assurance plays a critical role in delivering safe and compliant rail systems\, but understanding the theory is only part of the challenge. Drawing on experience from major rail projects including Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1\, Regional Rail Link and Auckland’s City Rail Link\, the presenter will share practical insights into how safety assurance is applied in real-world project environments.  This presentation will explore the relationship between legislative requirements\, safety assurance frameworks and the concept of So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP). Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how safety cases\, assurance arguments and governance processes contribute to safe railway operations and project delivery.  Through case studies and industry examples\, participants will learn practical approaches\, common pitfalls to avoid and lessons that can be applied across rail and other safety-critical industries. \nWho should attend\nThis event is suited for all professionals within the rail industry\, as well as all those interested in improving rail safety and safety assurance. \nLearning outcomes\nIn this presentation you will learn: \n\nWhat SFAIRP actually means\nWhat your GSN should and should not be – and whether you need a GSN at all\nWhat a Safety Case\, is and is not\nWhat the law says and does not say in respect of safety duties\n\nProgram timeline\nIn-Person \n\n5.30pm AEST: Event opens\n6.00pm AEST: Presentation begins\n6.45pm AEST: Q&A\n7.00pm AEST: Presentation concludes\n7.30pm AEST: Event closes\n\nOnline \n\n7.00pm AEDT: Presentation commences\n7.45pm AEDT: Q&A\n8.00pm AEDT: Event concludes\n\nRegistration via Engineer’s Australia: Registration \n
