SUMMARY:SA Event: Local joint RTSA/IRSE/PWI/RTAA Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA) South Australia Chapter invites you to join them for a local joint meeting (along with IRSE/PWI/RTAA) in person on 1 September 2022 from 5:45 pm to 9:00 pm. \nProgramme \n\nTrain Order Working System Rationalisation (TOWSR) Project\nIn NSW and Victoria\, ARTC currently has four sections on the rail network that use train order working systems to manage movement of rail traffic. These operate using both PTOS – Phoenix Train Order System\, and the TMACS – Train Management And Control System. This project fulfils a key strategic item in the ARTC Digital Strategy to consider rationalisation of legacy train control interfaces. This presentation will provide an outline of the TOWSR Project. Review how it will deliver in terms of system consolidation\, and operational efficiencies. It will explain the staged implementation aligned with Network Control Centres\, and how it achieves the projects objectives leveraging the platform of existing technology and industry capability.\nCompletion of the Gawler Rail Electrification Signalling project \nThis presentation will focus on the signalling aspects of the project.\nComplimentary Cocktail Food and Refreshments will be provided after the presentations\n\nRegister to attend here. \n(Please note this is a “Face-to-Face” meeting – No webinar is provided) \nSpeakers\n \nPaul Furniss FIET FIEAust\, Operational Technology Project Consultant\, Australian Rail Track Corporation\nPaul is a Chartered Professional Engineer with experience in the UK and Australia spanning three decades. He has held influential roles with a focus on technology\, engineering\, and asset management primarily in the rail signalling and communications\, and train control disciplines. His skills target the application of innovative solutions across a range of integrated technologies and systems\, within a business context\, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. The current role for ARTC\, Paul is leading 2 priority projects for the Operational Technology Team. These are the Telemetry Obsolescence Project upgrading telemetry at hundreds of locations across the ARTC network\, and the Train Order Working System Rationalisation Project which is the topic for this presentation. \n \nConnor McDonnell\, Signalling Work Package Manager Siemens Mobility Pty Ltd \nConnor McDonnell\, before starting within the rail industry\, completed a Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering at RMIT University. To begin his journey into rail he started with Siemens Mobility under secondment from the Graduate Program at Rail Projects Victoria. At Siemens\, Connor started as a Signalling Design Engineer working within Melbourne Metro projects such as Hurstbridge Line Upgrade Stage 2 and various Level Crossing Removals. More recently he has taken on the role of Signalling Work Package Manager within the Adelaide Gawler Rail Electrification Project for all the post commissioning works.

SUMMARY:SA Chapter Event: Gawler Rail Electrification Project Insights
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nJoin us to hear from engineers who worked directly on the the Gawler rail electrification project. Our guest speakers will provide comprehensive insights into the $842 million project by those on the coalface. \n  \n \nAbout the speakers\n  \nMatthew Allen\, Overhead Wiring Project Manager\, Acciona \nMatthew has held management positions in electrification and plant maintenance and construction contracts for the past 15 years and has been working in the rail E&P industry since 1989. He has a varied and extensive knowledge and understanding of overhead line traction supply equipment\, having worked with UK design\, European High-speed design\, and Australian 750DC equipment for both installation and maintenance activities during the past 27 years.\nMatthew prides himself on his good client and stakeholder relationships combined with his organisational and people management skills and can combine technical expertise with the safety\, managerial and operational factors that affect all maintenance decisions. \nNathan Short\, Site Engineer\, Acciona \nNathan is a capable Site Engineer who has worked on multiple large infrastructure projects in South Australia\, including the Gawler Rail Electrification and Northern Connector. He has proven to be an adaptable team member\, keen to learn with good attention to detail. He has a great understanding of Steel Installation\, OLE Installation\, planning and logistics gained during his time on the Gawler project. His skill set includes coordinating and managing access to difficult areas\, developing detailed install programs\, design\, coordinating and running site crews\, budget forecasting\, material procurement\, subcontractor management\, safety management and quality control. \nLawson Forster\, Project Engineer\, Acciona \nLawson is a capable Project Engineer who has worked on various large infrastructure projects in South Australia\, including the Northern Connector and Air7000 defence project.
