DESCRIPTION:The RTSA and EA are delighted to host a one-of-kind sneak peek into the future of communications in the railways. This hybrid event (in-person and online) will be presented by Mr Rory R. McDonnell from Nokia\, who will discuss the technical systems underpinning automated train operation\, smart rail maintenance\, and 5G Rail. \n  \nThe event will be free for EA and Technical Society members attending online. SUMMARY:RTSA SA Chapter Event: Design and Installation of PORR Precast Panels for the Melbourne Tunnel Project
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nThe RTSA and PWI welcomes all members and non-members to a presentation by Rob Schweiger on the design and installation of precast concrete track panels for the Melbourne Tunnel Project. \nThe presentation will describe the design of the PORR precast concrete track panels to suit the Melbourne Tunnel Project track alignment constraints\, whilst addressing the significant noise and vibration attenuation requirements. This has resulted in 3 different types of systems being designed to satisfy these requirements. He commenced work in the State Transport Authority of South Australia where he gained a solid basis for understanding and delivering railway infrastructure maintenance. Robert managed the OneSteel Steel Sleeper business for two years. Robert has worked for the John Holland Rail Division for nearly 20 years being involved in delivering major projects in Australia and in setting up projects internationally. He currently is working on the Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project as Technical Services Manager leading the wheel rail interface aspects of the project and is responsible for coordinating Type Approvals and Standard Waivers. \nRobert’s knowledge and experience have also been instrumental when he was the Chair of the Standards Australia Track Materials CE2 committee and continues to participate in development of RISSB Track Infrastructure Standards. He has been an active member of the RTSA since its inception in 1998\, with roles as Executive Chair\, Executive Treasurer\, SA Chapter Chair and Conference Chairman for the 2004 CORE held in Darwin.
