He has a particular interest in modelling train performance to optimise energy efficiency.

DESCRIPTION:Cybersecurity is a hot topic worldwide with attacks being performed against multiple domains. Over the past 5 years there has been a major increase in attacks on the railway system with a number denial of service and ransomware attacks being announced. \nThe railway industry is clearly a target for cyber criminals\, and it is clearly hard to defend due to the inherent geographical distribution and technologically speaking the railway systems are designed with safety and availability rather than any focus on security. The railway becomes more of a target now as it starts to move to computer-based systems using IP protocols and wireless communication and networking. \nThere has been a recent release of a CENELEC Standard (EN 50701) to deal with Cyber Security for Railway Applications where this builds on the underlying standards such as ISO 27001 and IEC 62443. \nJoin subject matter experts as they provide an overview of why cybersecurity is important in the railway industry\, highlighting attacks which have been executed on railways and asking the question as to whether your systems are protected\, with your railway network and assets being monitored for attacks. \n  \nThis is a free Engineers Australia event.  Click on the link below to register

DESCRIPTION:Join the RTSA WA Chapter for the WA Chapter 2022 Annual Meeting and Presentation: 20 Day Long term track closure of the Mandurah Line\, the journey of the successful reconstruction of electrified railway within a 20 day blockade of one of WA’s main public service commutes. This event will be held hybrid online and in-person at Engineers Australia\, West Perth at 12:30-1:30pm AWST on Thursday 26th May 2022. \nThis event is free for RTSA members\, and AUD $30 for non-members. \nClick here to register on the Engineers Australia website. \nAbout the Presentation\nGlen Iris to Cockburn Rail Blockade Engineering critical risks\, project planning and methodology For 20 days between 26 December 2021 and 14 January 2022 the Mandurah rail line was blockaded (closed) between Glen Iris and Cockburn to reconstruct the Mandurah line tracks on a new alignment to make space for the future construction of the new Thornlie-Cockburn Link. This was the longest ever blockade of a PTA line and affected the busiest section of the network. \nThe works were successfully completed and the line was handed back to passenger service on schedule at full line speed (130 km/h) and without operational restriction\, the first time this has happened after a major blockade on the PTA network. The presentation will cover the project scope\, critical risks\, planning and methodology that was implemented to successfully design\, construct\, commission\, assure and enter into service 3.5km of twin track electrified passenger rail infrastructure in a constrained location in the median of the Kwinana Freeway. \nAbout the Speaker\n \nGraham Holden FIEAust CPEng EngExec NER APEC Engineer IntPE(Aus)\nEngineering Manager\, NEWest Alliance \nGraham Holden is Engineering Manager for the NEWest Alliance delivering the Thornlie-Cockburn Link and the Yanchep Rail Extension projects for PTA.
