DESCRIPTION:Email us at RTSAtube@gmail.com to find out about discounts on Doc Frank’s courses. \nClick here to visit Doc Frank’s website for more information and to register. \n \n\n\nGet ETCS savvy and confident\n\nThe European Train Control System (ETCS) is the signalling technology of choice for all of Europe (that’s the E in ETCS) but has become established as the most popular and widespread modern signalling technology around the world. Even being so far from Europe\, Australia and New Zealand have ETCS applications for the suburban\nrail networks in Auckland\, Adelaide\, Sydney and Brisbane.ETCS offers enhanced features that can improve the achievable capacity and can transform the\noperation of public rail transport in similar ways than the signalling “gold standard” CBTC. You can\nunderstand the basic concepts and principles with the help of this ETCS Kickstarter training. \nBased on the highly successful teaching concept of the CBTC Kickstarter\, this ETCS training does not require any prior signalling knowledge and is therefore suitable for any railway professional who may get exposed to that new ETCS technology and the change it will bring to the future operation of the railway. \nETCS Kickstarter is ideal for getting your ETCS journey “kickstarted”. You will receive a comprehensive easy-to-understand introduction to relevant ETCS concepts and principles and gain confidence by really “getting it”. \nWhat you will learn during this training includes: \n\n\nAutomatic Train Protection – definition and purpose\nHistory and purpose of ERTMS and ETCS\nSuppliers and other stakeholders\nThe six (not three) levels of ETCS\nCore functions of ETCS and how they work\nETCS modes\, transitions and language\nLessons from ETCS implementation\nInternational case studies\n\nThe main objective of this training is your full understanding of the course content\, demonstrated by a knowledge test at the end of the training and documented by a course certificate. The ETCS Kickstarter: \n\n\nhas adopted the successful\nteaching concept of the iconic CBTC Kickstarter course\navoids the use of ‘signalling mumbo jumbo’\nfocuses on YOU as the participant\, ensuring that you understand 100% of the content presented and\ncan access and use this knowledge when you\nneed it in your daily business\ncomes with an industry-unique 12-months online after-event support that lets you ask any questions on\nthe training content and reinforces your learning success from the training\nis the perfect choice for\nrailway professionals like you (I assume) who will deal increasingly often with the new ETCS technology\, now or in the future.\n\nETCS is the leading global standard for modern interoperable signalling. Diligently applied it can become a real game-changer which enables widespread improvement of railway performance.Take this opportunity to boost your understanding of ETCS by enrolling to this outstanding training today!

SUMMARY:Doc Frank Heibel's CBTC Kickstarter Training
DESCRIPTION:RTSA Members can get an AUD$100 discount off the AUD$1\,099 course fee – send us an email at RTSAtube@gmail.com for the discount code. \nClick here to visit Doc Frank’s website for more information and to register. \n \n\nGet CBTC savvy and confident\nRegardless of your signalling knowledge prior to the training! \n\n\nCBTC is the high performance signalling technology of choice in way over 100 cities around the world. Do you want or need to learn about CBTC but don’t know where to start? Or do you feel overwhelmed and clueless? Because you may consider signalling a “dark art”\, and therefore CBTC as the “uber signalling” must surely be even more incomprehensible than conventional signalling? \nYou can now safely put those fears and prejudices aside as help for you is just a few clicks away. \nThis CBTC Kickstarter training was carefully designed to pick you up from wherever you are on your signalling learning curve (even if you think you are right at the bottom end!) and provide you with a sound and comprehensive foundation of easy-to-understand and memorable CBTC knowledge. The CBTC Kickstarter training has been around since 2014 and helped hundreds of railway professionals from all backgrounds to gain the knowledge and confidence to understand something they might have previously considered “rocket science”. \nThings you will learn during this CBTC training include:\n* What is CBTC and what makes it genuine\n* Simple frameworks for memorising key functionality and architecture of CBTC\n* CBTC on one page (really!)\n* Why is interoperability between different CBTC products such a problem\n* Foundations and trends of data communications for CBTC\n* Key CBTC subsystems and their interaction\n* What all those acronyms mean that are commonly used by the “pros”\n* What are the key benefits of CBTC and what drives those benefits\n* How to implement CBTC the smart way (and what’s not so smart that better be avoided)\n* The best ways of interfacing CBTC to legacy signalling (my “golden three” interface types)\n* How CBTC compares with other contemporary signalling technologies\n* Challenges of delivering CBTC and how to tackle them\nand so much more (but I do not want you to feel overwhelmed – you really will learn all that\, trust the proven process). \nThis CBTC training consists of four video conferencing session of about three hours each. I did some benchmarking with the (very few and far between) other CBTC trainings in the global market and can proudly assure you that this CBTC Kickstarter training offers by far the best value for money regarding training duration versus price. It is also the most established public CBTC training worldwide with the longest track record. \nAs for evidence of the course quality\, you will probably know that railway people are usually a bit shy in giving public praise for anything\, especially in front of a camera\, but I managed to capture testimonials from at least some of my previous course participants who all spoke most highly about this course. (That video below was shot in 2014 as a trailer for live classroom trainings\, but the messages are timeless and still applicable today.) And take my word that those testimonials reflect what everybody had to say about this training! \nHere are some other quotes from participants of this CBTC training: \n\n“Had a great time\, made new contacts and learned lots.”\n“Very enjoyable\, engaging and informative. Really good.”\n“Excellent. A solid CBTC basis\, presented in a fun and informative manner.”\n“Great course\, excellent content\, will be very useful for upcoming changes.”(As a mandatory disclaimer for any testimonials please note that the statements above and in the video are individual and personal feedbacks of previous training participants which cannot indicate let alone guarantee your own learning success.) \n\nCBTC is not going away once it has been introduced. If it gets anywhere close to where you work\, trust me that your best option is to familiarise yourself with it and avoid the feeling that you want to hide in a corner from “those signalling nerds”. You will have the knowledge and confidence to talk to the “pros” at eye level\, distinguish “an X from an U” and call out people who try to pull wool over your eyes. Avoiding CBTC that has gained a foothold in your railway will be next to impossible and a potentially serious threat to your further railway career\, so why not fall forward and embrace it?The CBTC Kickstarter training is the best tool for kickstarting your CBTC journey\, whatever that journey may end up being. And helping you it will\, as it has been proven time and again for all of my training participants over the last eight years since launching this course for the first time. \nSome extras you will get with this training:\n* A knowledge test at the end of the last training session.\n* A course certificate upon your completion of the training.\n* Access to an exclusive online group of CBTC Kickstarter training alumni for boosting your CBTC network.\n* 12 months of Q&A support on the course content (unique in this industry).\n* Bonus #1: For the first time ever course participants will get a full glossary of acronyms used in this training.\n* Bonus #2: An exclusive video on the future of Australian signalling\, comparing my 2014 view with today’s status.\n* Bonus #3: An exclusive video analysing a 1995 paper on CBTC benefits from a global top CBTC expert – still valid today.

SUMMARY:Qld Chapter Webinar Event: Introduction to rail traction power earthing and bonding systems
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nAttend this webinar to understand related risks in the rail environment and undertake a review of projects and the complexities encountered. \nThis presentation will outline: \n\nlearnings from recent rail projects\ntunnel environments where aspects of these complexities were encountered\nbrief introduction to the safety critical importance of Traction Power Earthing and Bonding systems.\n\nAdditional information\nManaging earthing related risk in the rail environment requires approaches that can be significantly different to those used for typical HV power systems. Hazardous voltages may be present not only under fault conditions but also due to the flow of traction currents under normal operations. Current draw of moving trains combined with currents injected by regenerative breaking\, results in a power system load flow analysis where the connection points of multiple sources and multiple loads move based on timetables. \nTypical earthing design approaches\, applicable to above ground meshed power systems\, are often difficult to implement in constrained tunnel environments where parallel exposure lengths are significant and available real estate is minimal. This combined with significantly higher likelihood of the presence of people\, adds additional complexity to earthing system design. \nAbout the speaker\nLachlan McKerrow\, Principal Engineer\, Safearth \nSince 1999 Lachlan has been in the discipline of earthing providing consulting expertise to a range of key infrastructure projects in the industrial\, transport and energy sectors. Now a Principal Engineer\, Lachlan is responsible for leading a team of consultants servicing the defence infrastructure\, rail\, tunnelling\, major construction as well as the renewable energy sectors. Lachlan graduated with BE (Elec) from the University of Newcastle in 1994 and worked for a small consulting firm servicing the mining and coal loading industry in Newcastle. Lachlan has 18 years’ experience in project management\, primary and secondary design\, training\, construction support\, field testing predominately in the area of earthing and lightning protection. \nClick on the link below to register for this event.

SUMMARY:EA Webinar Event - "Cybersecurity in the railway industry"
DESCRIPTION:Cybersecurity is a hot topic worldwide with attacks being performed against multiple domains. Over the past 5 years there has been a major increase in attacks on the railway system with a number denial of service and ransomware attacks being announced. \nThe railway industry is clearly a target for cyber criminals\, and it is clearly hard to defend due to the inherent geographical distribution and technologically speaking the railway systems are designed with safety and availability rather than any focus on security. The railway becomes more of a target now as it starts to move to computer-based systems using IP protocols and wireless communication and networking. \nThere has been a recent release of a CENELEC Standard (EN 50701) to deal with Cyber Security for Railway Applications where this builds on the underlying standards such as ISO 27001 and IEC 62443. \nJoin subject matter experts as they provide an overview of why cybersecurity is important in the railway industry\, highlighting attacks which have been executed on railways and asking the question as to whether your systems are protected\, with your railway network and assets being monitored for attacks. \n  \nThis is a free Engineers Australia event.  Click on the link below to register
