Increasing population leading to road congestion is a driver for rail transportation investment in Australia.  Regional passenger rail is one area that requires improvement in all states across Australia to better connect regional centres Alstom, as a global signalling provider offers a portfolio of scalable ETCS solutions, to suit specific network and business requirements.  Alstom’s ETCS (ATLAS) solution provides a safe, reliable and interoperable signalling solution for both low and high-density networks while optimizing the total cost of ownership whether on passenger, freight or mixed traffic lines.

On regional rail networks, ATLAS 400 solution provides in-cab signalling, positive train localization and train protection through radio communication with centralised equipment. ATLAS 400 solution design minimises wayside equipment along the track as it does not require colour light signals and train detection devices. ATLAS 400 is specifically designed for low density lines and was built on the proven ATLAS 200 (ETCS Level2) solution supported by a strong in-service experience. The solution is fully interoperable, future-proof and can easily be upgraded to meet new business requirements such as additional traffic capacity.

This presentation will outline ATLAS solution portfolio and will detail the ATLAS 400 solution from a technical and operational perspective. Solution benefits will be discussed and Alstom’s return of experience from actual applications highlighting the need for a regional ETCS solution and the benefits it will have on rail transportation.
