The Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA) is a not-for-profit technical society dedicated to promoting excellence in railway engineering, technology and management across Australia and New Zealand. Founded in 1997, RTSA brings together academic, industrial, commercial and governmental organisations to foster cooperation and drive innovation in the rail sector.
Whether you are an experienced rail engineer, a researcher, a senior manager in the rail industry or a young professional looking to get involved, RTSA welcomes you. By becoming a member you gain access to events, networking, knowledge-sharing and a professional community committed to moving rail forward.
To stimulate the active involvement of our members in developing and sharing knowledge of railway technology and management, thereby supporting the business of the rail industry.
To provide continuing professional development opportunities for our members, helping them stay at the forefront of the industry.
To promote strong working relationships between all participants in the railway industry—across disciplines, across regions, and across the full Australasia region.
RTSA operates through six chapters across Australia and New Zealand:
Through these chapters we deliver technical forums, site visits, study tours, networking events and conferences, enabling professional growth and industry‐wide collaboration.

Regular technical meetings, webinars, site visits and study tours—often organised at the chapter level.
Opportunities for professional development, career advancement and contribution to the rail industry.
The chance to contribute to our technical committees, advisory groups, and award programs for engineering excellence.
