Railway Engineering Student Thesis Award Winner 2013
IMPROVING THE INTERMEDIATE OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE TO PERTH’S JOONDALUP AND MANDURAH RAIL LINES UNDER THE CURRENT SCENARIO USING MICRO-SIMULATION.
Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and Bachelor of Commerce
Place of Study: University of Western Australia
The objective of the thesis is to simulate the current passenger and train movements on the Joondalup and Madurah railways in Perth, using heuristic search techniques and drawing upon smart card ticket data, in order to assess passenger waiting times at peak periods. A number of short-term scenarios designed to introduce improved service were developed and trialed. Particular attention was given to passenger wait times and pass-up volumes at selected stations during the morning peak.
