Hakeem Khan
Thesis: Numerical Investigation on Fatigue Behaviour of Macro-synthetic Fibre Reinforced Concrete Sleepers (MSFRC)
Place of Study: Western Sydney University, Sydney
Degree: Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Honours
Mr. Hakeem Khan from Western Sydney University is awarded with the RTSA 2024 Undergraduate Thesis Award for his thesis titled ‘Numerical Investigation on Fatigue Behaviour of Macro-synthetic Fibre Reinforced Concrete Sleepers (MSFRC).’
Mr. Hakeem thesis aligned his goal with the Carbon Net Zero infrastructure and Sustainable Development Goal under UN Goals 9 and 11. Macro-synthetic fibre reinforced concrete sleepers are an innovative alternative to the current sleepers used in railway as they can reduce the propagation of cracks and increase the lifespan. The Industry-Led Research aims to validate a concurrent experimental study on the fatigue behaviour of MSFRC sleepers with a numerical investigation. The numerical investigation uses the material behaviour, loading condition and boundary conditions and inputs them into Abaqus to evaluate the fatigue behaviour of the MSFRC sleepers.
