Presentation 1 – IRSE – Supervisors in axle counting train detection, self healing tracks and advanced remote control functionality

Presented by Jed Sharman.

Jed Sharman and Maxwell Smyth are engineers from Frauscher Sensor Technology, who’ve worked on projects spanning across the entire Australia and New Zealand railway industry, with a combined seven years of experience supporting the industry through trainings, technical consultations, onsite support, and equipment configuration.

They are committed to keeping your trains running safely on the track, while switching your thinking completely off the rails!

Presentation 2 – RTSA – Monash Rail Express and their UK Rail Challenge

Presented by Lachlan Clements (Bogie), Chiara Gillam (Integration) and Jemott Mohan (People and Culture).

This year a team of Monash University students designed and built a miniature tram “Wallaby” to compete in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Railway Challenge in the UK. The competition consisted of several challenges, and each team was scored accordingly on their performance. This is the first time that an Australian team has entered this competition and MREX achieved a very creditable 4th position out of the 14 teams that entered.
