Join the RTSA QLD for our Annual Dinner and Trivia Extravaganza

Join rail industry professionals from across Queensland for RTSA’s annual dinner and trivia evening. This flagship event brings together practitioners from all sectors of the rail industry to reflect on the year’s achievements, share insights, and strengthen professional networks.  The evening will feature a keynote address from The Wave Directors Genevieve de Michele & Brendan Cassels and TMR Director (Rollingstock) Ian Garrad, followed by RTSA award presentations and the popular trivia session.

Attendees will enjoy a two-course dinner and beverages while engaging in informed discussion and industry celebration in a relaxed setting.

Keynote address:

Announced as part of the Qld government’s delivery plan for the 2032 Olympics, The Wave includes a heavy rail passenger line connecting the existing North Coast Line in South-East Queensland to Caloundra and Birtinya on the Sunshine Coast, before then connecting to Maroochydore and Sunshine Coast Airport via a metro-style service.

Genevieve de Michele (Project Director, The Wave Rail), Brendan Cassels (Engineering, Construction and Rail Operations Director at the Wave Rail) and Ian Garrad (Director (Rollingstock)) will describe how the infrastructure project (The Wave) and the rolling stock manufacturing program (QTMP), are both working in tandem to unlock and connect the Sunshine Coast to the rest of the south east corner. They will examine the challenges and innovative approaches taken as part of delivering this landmark program.

 Brendan Cassels

Engineering, Construction and Rail Operations Director, The Wave (Rail):

 As Engineering Director for The Wave Rail, Brendan has been responsible for leading the rail engineering efforts in the development of a Reference Design for market readiness activities, and is currently leading engineering efforts and interactives as part of mark engagement prior to contract award. He brings over 15 years of extensive experience as a chartered civil and structural engineer in rail infrastructure delivery. He has previously worked on projects including Inland Rail, Cross River Rail and the Level Crossing Removal Project.

Genevieve de Michele

Project Director, The Wave (Rail):

 Genevieve is currently Project Director for The Wave (Rail), as the project enters its market engagement phase. She also oversees all major rail planning for the South East Queensland City Train network north of the CBD. She has previously led teams of planners, engineers, estimators, economists and modellers to develop strategic plans, investment planning and project feasibility studies to inform the short and longer term program for rail in Queensland. She has previously worked on pojects including the Legacy Way tunnel, the Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade and the Inner City Bypass Upgrade.

Ian Garrad

Director (Rollingstock)

Ian is the Director (Rollingstock) within TMR’s Passenger Rollingstock and Signalling Branch. Ian has over sixteen years’ experience predominantly in Queensland passenger rollingstock engineering, including working for TMR through the delivery, acceptance, modification and asset management of the New Generation Rollingstock fleet, and more recently working with delivery partners to stand up testing and operational readiness for QTMP.
